Network Cam / Web Cam

The Pet Set is using three Axis 2100 network cameras and the indoor puppy camera is a AXIS 210 network camera. A network camera is different then a web camera in that each camera has it’s own server in the camera making it needless to connect each camera to a computer like web cams. Each camera is connected to our router/network switch. Our router/network switch is connected to a T1 modem. The T1 modem is our access to the internet.

Details:

Your browser collects all the page details from our web site, but the image itself is sent directly from the camera to your PC.

Camera limits

Each camera can serve 10 clients, making it possible to serve a maximum of 40 clients (all 4 cameras running). The limiting factor is that the maximum frames we can upload to the internet with our T1 connection is 3 frames per second. If you’re the only client on line looking at a camera and you have a DSL (or better) connection, you should see 3 frames per second. If we have the maximum clients on line using the cameras, you will not be able to see any more than one frame every 10 seconds. Please keep this in mind when using the cameras. If the frame speed is slow, lots of people are trying to use the cameras. Please be courteous. Never leave a window open on a camera, this will limit usage. If you are the 11th client trying to use the same camera, your browser WILL FREEZE UP. If this happens, try using the page later when usage is not as high. The amount of live images use has made it necessary to put time limits on the use of these pages. The selector page has a time limit of 1 minute to make a selection of what image you need to view. The four single image pages have a time limit of  5 minutes. After this time limit expires, your browser will automatically refresh to a modified one minute refresh page. Using the navigation links on this modified page will re-link to the normal mode pages. This time limit policy is to help free up bandwidth and connection limit problems to the network at The Pet Set property.

Using the Snapshot feature

This feature lets you save a still image from doggie cam to your PC. In the full frame mode click on the "Snapshot" button below the main image to generate a still image in a pop up window. Once this still image is on the screen put your mouse pointer over the image, right click on it, select from the pop down menu "save picture as" or "save image as", then save the file on your PC. The snapshot feature will NOT work from the selector page.

The first time

On the first use of doggie cam your browser may need to download the necessary software to automate the frame advance sequence. A yellow warning bar at the top of your browser may show up, you may need to authorize the download. Next A install warning window may pop up, select "YES" or "INSTALL" to install the necessary software. This is the procedure for Microsoft Internet Explorer, the software after downloading and installing is part of the browsers "Add On" software. Other browsers use "Java" add on software, if you have been updating your "Java" software everything should work.

Dial up access

On testing our camera system with a dial up connection, the maximum frame speed was one frame every 7 seconds. On first connection (software download included) the first frame took a least 30 seconds to appear.

Using 800 X 600 resolution or less on your monitor

If you are using 800 X 600 resolution or less on your monitor and the doggie cam live window doesn't fit, try pressing your F11 key in Microsoft I E. It made the window fit on my 800 X 600 display.

Some of the cameras are pointing in the wrong direction or don't work at all?

The Pet Set in using all "indoor" cameras, the cameras mounted next to roll up/down door opener chains pointing to the outside yard do get inadvertently knocked around and sometimes the power cable may come lose. Please feel free to give us a call at 562 595 5889 and let us know when this happens. Most of the time we don't know when this has happened.

Can't use the cameras on my work computer?

If you can use our camera system from home, but can't use them at work. There are many  reasons for this, below are a few of them:

1      Your browser security settings may be blocking our website and/or local IP address. If your using Internet explorer these settings can be changed. From the "Tools" menu, select the "Internet Options..." selection. A new popup window pops up, use the Security tab at the top, from this selection chick on the "Restricted sites" icon, now just below the icon chick on the "Sites..." button. Check the sites restricted by your browser in this new pop up window for "petsetlb.com" or the IP address "69.198.195.230", if either one of these are listed, remove them. Now click OK to close  this window, click on the icon for "Trusted sites", using the same "Sites..." button, check the sites in this list. If the web names "petsetlb.com" and the IP address "69.198.195.230" are not in this list, add them to this list, click OK to close this window. Click OK on the first window to close this window and try using our system.

2       Your employer may not want you to monitor our system form the company computer system and may have blocked access to it. If this is the reason we at The Pet Set don't think it's a good career move to try to get around this and don't want to be responsible for you losing your job. It might be a good idea to just view your pet from home when you can in this case.

3       If you have firewall software on your PC or network router, check the settings on this software, make sure the web site "petsetlb.com", the IP address "69.198.195.230" and the ports 81, 82, 83 and 84 are not blocked.

4       If you are using a 64 bit PC, make sure your browser is running in 32 bit mode. AXIS does not support 64 bit browsers at this time.

Any other reason for our camera system not working on your work PC would need to be addressed by you work IT or IS department. If you can't use our cameras from home, please let me know using the following link webmaster@petsetlb.com. I will do my best to help you if I can.

A work around for networks or PCs that filter or block use of our cameras

If you can not use any of our camera motion pages probably your network or PC has filters or firewalls that won't let you use "Active X" or "Java" applets that drive our camera motion frames. The last resort to view your pet is to download and view the files one at a time using one of the links below. You might find it necessary to change your temporary internet file settings to "every visit to the page". Use your browser "refresh" button to refresh the image file.

The links at the bottom of this paragraph will capture the snapshot image file in the camera. These files refresh 15 times per second.

The clock or date in the camera title bar at the top of the image is not right

If your viewing our cameras from a PC in the Pacific time zone and the date or time is not correct. Send me a Email and I will fix it, use the following link webmaster@petsetlb.com. The clock in the cameras do not keep time very well and need to be reset from time to time.
